Choose A Career Or Die
What is this cliche going on about with choosing a career? "It's high time you decide what you want to be in life and work towards it; otherwise you have no idea where life will take you. You'll lag behind everyone around you and then it will be no use regretting."
I mean what! Decide what you want to be at the age of 10 and revolve everything from your toys (if you're given some) to your books to your clothes to the TV programme you watch, around that one thing.
Have we ever heard our grandparents say "I chose my career when I was 15 and worked towards it since then"? I don't think we did. All they cared for was doing well in life or following a passion and being happy. Success, fame, money etc. etc. just rolled in because of the hardwork and dedication they could give to work.
Do we think all these multinational billionaires went to coaching institues to be able to pursue their careers? Or they even had a career? All they cared for was making life big. All they did was giving their best in the situation they were in and found out ways of growing from there (from their own minds ofcourse, and not from a professional 'career' counseller). Their career didn't include "I want to establish a big company, hence I'll clear so & so exam and I'll cram all the questions an examiner can put in the paper".
No doubt, that those of today's age who had figured out their goals way too earlier are now well settled & stuff. But I wonder if they have any idea about how it is like to swim with the course of waves and may be even change your direction as and if you like.
But then again, it's an individual's choice. All I gotta say is that let not those who swim with the waves be called dead fish. May be they are just the ones who have taken a 'chill pill' and know that the ocean/river/lake/pond/whatever is only so vast that it will always have something for them. Or may be they are those rolling stones who want to keep rolling and exploring new ways of life than just a 'hard set career I chose when I was 10'. *Chill pill* Better gulp one before its too late!

This really is a big dilemma, I must say. And this is exactly what throws people into hyperspecialaization. Irony, it's everywhere now. It helps doing nothing but narrowing the vision... This one really does extra justice to the subject's seriousness. :-)
ReplyDeleteexactly that! it's everywhere! anyways, thanks :)
